Cam DeSantis’ life is a hot, steaming pile. How else would you describe losing your husband, your job, and your money all at once? Desperate times call for desperate measures, so when salvation comes in the form of one intolerable a-hole, who just happens to be the starting quarterback for the vaunted NY Titans, she has no choice but to accept his offer as a live-in nanny slash teacher for his eight year old nephew. Now all she has to do is find a safe place in her mind to hide whenever she feels the need to throat punch him into tomorrow…which is often.Calvin Shaw has zero interest in women. Wait, wait––let me rephrase that. He loves women, he just doesn’t want anything to do with ‘um. Not since his wife, presently ex-wife, got knocked up by the guy she was cheating on him with. Problem is––there’s one living in his house. And he doesn’t know what’s worse, that he promised to be civil, or that he’s attracted to her.
I don't think I even remember the last time I was so imminently pleased than I was last night when reading this slow burn romance. It was slow burn romance at its best - there was tension that kept me on my toes, there was an aloof hero whom I didn't particularly like at first, but who I grew to really like during the course of the novel because Dangelico really managed to make me feel things and just root for the characters.
Gah! How I adore the feeling of feeling all the things when reading. It's just the best feeling in the whole wide world where you can fall head over heels in love with the characters you're reading about. And guys, Dangelico is pretty close to Zapata's level of slow burn with this one! And yes, some might say that it's pretty similar to The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, but there are enough differences there for me to say that these are different stories.
The hero is kind of an ahole at first, but there's really something about heroes who redeem themselves during the course of the novel, that appeals to me. I guess you might call it my personal catnip. I just *love* reading about heroes who are not all that lovable at first, but the more you read, the more you discover about them and the more you fall for the hero. Just like I did with Calvin. He's really rude to Cam at first, but as Cam gets to know this introverted sportsman, I fell for him piece by piece and in the end he stole my heart completely.

As did the novel. This book completely stole my sleep, my precious hours meant for sleep, and my love. No regrets. Except maybe for the fact that Sam's storyline was left kind of open and I would've liked to get a better ending for that subplot.
All in all, I'd highly recommend for slow burn romance fans such as myself.
