Payne, twin sister of Vishous, is cut from the same dark, seductive cloth as her brother. Imprisoned for eons by their mother, the Scribe Virgin, she finally frees herself - only to face a devastating injury.Manuel Manello, M.D., is drafted by the Brotherhood to save her as only he can - but when the human surgeon and the vampire warrior meet, their two worlds collide in the face of their undeniable passion. With so much working against them, can love prove stronger than the birthright and the biology that separates them?
I know I haven't written anything about the previous eight books in the series, but I honestly have not felt like writing anything. Even this review is a bit difficult, but I'm going to give it a go.
It's pretty easy to get back into the world of the Brotherhood, but I found Payne's character to be a lot duller than she seemed to be in the previous instalments. Her relationship with Manny seemed to take a backseat while Ward gave a lot of attention to V's problems. Which seemed to come out nowhere and go who knows where pretty miraculously.
I wasn't all that invested in Payne and Manny, I wanted to find out more about Xcor and his band of misfits. Qhuinn and his longing for Blay were more interesting and it was pretty boring to begin with! Hell, I would've read gladly about Manny's horse Glory.
Oh wait... it seems like I didn't enjoy the book. I did. I really did. I just didn't care for Payne and Manny.
This book was weaker than the previous books, but if I happen to get my hands on the tenth book in the series, I'll probably gladly continue reading about these vampires.
